Dr Mina Ghaly

Dr Mina Ghaly is a movement disorders and general Neurologist. He completed his Neurology specialty training at Melbourne Tertiary Hospitals.

He undertook extensive training in the field of movement disorders at St Vincent’s hospital. He was the first to receive a dedicated deep brain stimulation – DBS fellowship at the Royal Melbourne hospital and work with expert DBS neurologists in Melbourne and overseas. Dr Ghaly underwent further training in the surgical treatment of movement disorders – Neuromodulation. He is one of a few neurologists globally who uses high-intensity focused ultrasound – MRgFUS to treat movement disorders.

He has expertise in managing movement disorders such as tremors, tics, dystonia, and Parkinson’s Disease. He has special interests in Parkinson’s disease pathology, and treatment, particularly Device Assisted Therapy (DAT), such as Duodopa, Apomorphine, Deep Brain Stimulation – DBS and MRI-guided focused ultrasound – MRgFUS. He uses Botulinum toxin to treat patients with dystonia, spasticity and chronic migraine.

Dr Ghaly also consults in various neurological conditions such as stroke, epilepsy, headache disorders, peripheral nerves and muscle diseases, Multiple Sclerosis and vertigo.

Dr Ghaly is active in Parkinson’s research, patient advocacy and public education.

He currently holds a position as a movement disorders specialist at St Vincent’s Hospital. He has private appointments at major Melbourne private hospitals – Epworth, St Vincent’s private, Melbourne private, Southeastern private hospital and Mulgrave private.

Dr Michael Zhong

Dr Zhong is a fully qualified neurologist with an interest in all neurological conditions and subspecialty training in Multiple Sclerosis and Neuroimmunology. His academic journey began with an Undergraduate Medical Degree from The University of Melbourne, followed by rigorous medical and neurological training at Monash Health and St. Vincent’s Hospital Melbourne.

Driven by a passion for advancing personalised therapeutics and prognostics in Multiple Sclerosis, Dr Zhong undertook a subspecialty fellowship at The Alfred Hospital, and completed his PhD through the Central Clinical School at Monash University in 2023.

He holds positions in numerous hospitals across Melbourne and Victoria and is valued for his tailored and compassionate perspective to all neurological problems.

Dr Andrew Evans

Dr Andrew Evans trained at the Royal Melbourne, Western Hospitals and the Kingston Centre. He spent over 4 years in a movement disorders fellowship at the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery, Queen Square, London, UK.

Dr Evans is the current director of the Movement Disorders Service at the Royal Melbourne Hospital. He has published extensively on the disease, particularly addressing symptoms that impact the quality of life of sufferers and heads a number of clinical research trials. In addition to his research, he is also a member of the Melbourne Health Ethics Committee.

His main clinical interests are general neurology, pharmacological and surgical management of movement disorders, neurobehavioural medicine, neurophysiology and botulinum toxin treatment of dystonia and spasticity.

In his capacity of neurosurgeon, Dr Evans visits a number of public and private hospitals in central Melbourne, including The Royal Melbourne Hospital, Melbourne Private Hospital, The Epworth Hospital Richmond.

Dr Essie Low

BSc (Hons) DPsych (Clin Neuro) MAPS MCCN

Dr Essie Low is an endorsed clinical neuropsychologist with a Doctor of Clinical Neuropsychology degree. She has extensive experience working in acute, aged care and rehabilitation, and mental health settings across major tertiary hospitals.

Essie’s main areas of interest and expertise is in the assessment, diagnosis, management and intervention of neurological and neurodegenerative conditions. She also offers pre- and post-surgical assessments for patients with parkinsonism or mental health conditions requiring deep brain stimulation, or for epileptic conditions. She is also skilled in providing assessments to inform decision-making capacity.

Essie currently holds an appointment as Senior Clinical Neuropsychologist with Neuropsychiatry at the Royal Melbourne Hospital. She is also the Dementia Trials Manager for Neurology at the Royal Melbourne Hospital where she manages large-scale dementia clinical trials investigating the efficacy of various drugs in delaying disease progression.

Essie is a board-approved supervisor. She is a Member of the Australian Psychological Society and Fellow of the APS College of Clinical Neuropsychologists.

Dr Gnanasegar Swaminathan

Dr Swaminathan is a Specialist Physician and Geriatrician with a diverse and extensive background in various medical disciplines. With a wealth of experience acquired from Monash Health and Barwon Health, Dr Swaminathan has profound experience in geriatric medicine, general medicine, intensive care, cardiology, and perioperative medicine.

He currently holds positions at Latrobe Regional Health, Mulgrave Private Hospital, and St. John of God (Berwick) as a geriatrician, peri-operative physician, general medicine physician. He is also involved in Acute Pain Service. He is also an adjunct senior lecturer in clinical medicine at Monash University.

He has expertise in the management of dementias and behavioural symptoms, capacity assessment in the setting of dementia, comprehensive geriatric assessment, geriatric cardiology, perioperative risk assessment and delirium management, falls risk reduction, incontinence, acute and chronic pain in the elderly and integrated care of multi-morbidity.

Dr Swaminathan is a fellow of Royal Australasian College of Physicians (RACP) and a member of Australian and New Zealand Society for Geriatric Medicine (ANZSGM).

Dr Mahi Jasinarachchi

Neuromuscular Neurologist & Clinical Electromyographer

Dr Jasinarachchi is a neurologist with a sub-specialty interest in clinical neurophysiology and neuromuscular disorders.

She completed her fellowship in Clinical Neurophysiology and Neuromuscular disorders at St. Vincent’s Hospital, Melbourne, where she had comprehensive training in large/small nerve fibre testing, EMG sampling, and single fibre EMG. As a consultant associated with Statewide Progressive Neurological Disease Service (SPNDS), Calvary Care Bethlehem Hospital, Caulfield, and through private work she has gained expertise in diagnosis and management of patients with complex neuromuscular disorders. She is involved in the training of advanced and basic physician trainee doctors on a regular basis.

Dr Mahi Jasinarachchi is a member of Australian and New Zealand Association of Neurologists, (ANZAN), Neuromuscular Society of Australia and New Zealand (NMSANZ) and American Association of Neuromuscular and Electrodiagnostic medicine (AANEM).

 Dr. Jasinarachchi would be happy to see patients for electromyography (EMG) and nerve conduction studies (NCS).

Dr Parveen Sagar

Dr. Parveen Sagar is a neurologist with a specialized focus on epilepsy, known for his expertise in managing complex and difficult-to-treat cases. He received his foundational medical training in Melbourne, where he completed his residency and neurology training at several prominent Melbourne hospitals. His commitment to advancing the field led him to pursue further specialization in epilepsy at the Alfred Hospital, a leading institution in the treatment of neurological disorders.

Dr. Sagar’s clinical expertise is particularly concentrated on epilepsy that is resistant to conventional treatments, including cases where surgical intervention may be a viable option. His deep knowledge and innovative approach in this area are the subjects of his ongoing doctoral research with Monash University, where he is exploring new methodologies and treatment strategies to enhance patient outcomes.

In addition to his clinical and research work, Dr. Sagar is dedicated to contributing to the broader medical community through his involvement in academic publications and presentations at national and international conferences. His commitment to excellence in neurology is matched by his passion for lifelong learning and professional development.

Outside of his professional endeavors, Dr. Sagar pursues personal interests in photography and long-distance running, activities that he finds both rewarding and complementary to his demanding career. His diverse skills and interests reflect a well-rounded approach to both his professional and personal life, contributing to a balanced and enriching lifestyle.
